MileHiRadio

Today I had the opportunity to go into a real radio station studio! I still cannot believe that I was on the radio! Me! Little Lexi Lyon from Parker! haha This music career thing continues to blow me away.
About two weeks ago, I got an e-mail from this guy Hoss telling me how he randomly picked up the Parker newspaper and read the article about me, looked my music up and decided that I needed to be on his show. On his online radio station he has a show called the Indie 500 where he interviews indie music groups and artists from everywhere and anywhere. So, obviously, I said I would love to come in! So there I was today, walking into a real radio station, still not really realizing what was happening.
So I walk in with my guitar and my manager (mom) and the guy who's sitting in front of the mixing board turns around "Hi Lexi! Hoss will be in in a moment." So there I was, feeling famous already. haha
And the funny part is I went in today thinking that I had, oh you know, 15 minutes on the air. Oh no. I had an hour! So Hoss talked with me for about 20 minutes at a time, played one of my songs in between and I got to play No Regrets live! They loved me! They were all so nice. Later they were telling me how online radio is really growing because it doesn't have the one limit that AM and FM radio has: it can be heard anywhere. He said that he has listeners from 32 different countries. Thousands of people probably heard me today. Kind of.. mind blowing. Especially since I messed up and said Mercedes Benz was a Joni Mitchell song. It was a Janis Joplin song. Everyone around the world was thinking "Boy, she's an idiot" haha Oh I sure hope not! But let me say I'm sorry and realize the error of my ways.
But anyway, here are a few pictures of the interview!

If you missed me live on MileHiRadio.com, you can listen > here <

Thanks everyone who's made all of this possible. I have the best fans ever!
Love,
Lexi

Alaska

So I just got home from my Alaskan cruise!
There's so much to say about it.. It was inspiring and beautiful and magical and went way above and beyond my expectations. Dad and I had a blast! But I realized that my childish fantasy of running off and living in Alaska like Chris McCandless were just that: childish. Even in the summer I was bundled up! I'm not a hardened nature buff. Maybe one day..  But it was wonderful to visit. Such an enchanting place..
In port in Juneau

Juneau was a cute little down. The tree-covered mountains surrounded the town like they were about to swallow up the buildings and everyone inside them. They told us it rains almost every day in the summer. Lucky us! Monday happened to be one of the days it decided to only rain for about ten minutes. After walking around the tourist shopping town, we got into a mini van with two ladies from Texas and a newly wed couple from Sweden and headed off to a boat dock on the other side of town. There we all piled onto a tiny tiny boat. Our captain introduced himself as Steve, Captain Steve. We then proceeded to look for whales in the bay. He claimed he knew how to find them easily: he looked for other whale watching boats. Not as magical as I would have hoped but sure enough! We found about ten other boats circled around this pod of about 8 Humpback whales! They were splashing around and flipping their tails at us and bleaching and we even got to see them bubble netting! Bubble netting is how Humpbacks in south east Alaska (they only do it there!) feed on small fish. They'll gather around a school of fish and blow bubbles around them in a sort of bubbly cage. The fish get really confused and all stay trapped inside this cage and all the humpbacks come up from under them with their mouths open. It's wild! Just out of no where all of a sudden all of these whales pop out of the water with their mouths wide open! Here's a picture I found on google... (It looks just like this! But it happens so randomly and so quickly that I didn't get any good pictures. But I saw this about six times!)
Bubble netting

And after the whale watching trip, we headed over to Mendenhall Glacier. This thing was huge! It's amazing to think that old snow can eventually carve valleys and fiords. When it snows, I don't think of something so powerful! I feel like I could dive into a motivational speech right now about how little actions can eventually make a huge difference or how if we all work together, we can move mountains, but I'll save that for someone else.

So then the next day we arrived in Skagway, hopped in a bus with a bunch of other people from our cruise and headed on a little tour of the area. We panned for gold (I think I found like a penny's worth), took pictures at every scenic place the bus would let us stop, and even crossed over into Canada.
I promise. There's gold on my finger.

And! OH! We saw a black bear! On our way back into Alaska, there was a bear on the edge of a cliff! While everyone was taking pictures, I was yelling "No! Don't do it! WE LOVE YOU!!"  I got the whole bus to giggle a little. Then right as I pulled out my camera, what does the bus driver decide to do? Start the bus. So. Here's my pathetic picture of the bear.
 Can't you tell that's a bear?

Then it was onto Glacier Bay! Glaciers are crazy. As I've already explained..  but anyway what's REALLY cool about them is when they calve. The noise even the smallest piece tumbling into the ocean is crazy! It sounds like thunder! The captain stopped the ship and we got to sit and watch this glacier for an hour. It was mesmerizing. People were trying to predict what would fall next. But the coolest part was, even with hundreds of people on deck, when ever a piece would start to calve, a few people would shout it out and point but then everyone would fall deathly silent and just watch. Everyone was just in awe. It was wonderful..  To know that so many people are still in love with the world and can still feel inspired by nature. Maybe that's getting a little to cheesy and deep, but it was an amazing thing to witness.
Glacier Bay

Ketchikan! This place is the rain capitol of America and, you know what? It rained the whole time. But it was a beautiful town! Little artsy Creek Street is wonderful! And if I thought I wouldn't miss the sun even a little bit, I could have lived there. I could have a little art shop and learn how to paint and sing for my customers and fish out my back window! It'd be perfect! But then... oh then. The tour group we were with went to this Lumberjack show. No. I'm serious. A LUMBERJACK SHOW. That ruined the cute, quaint day dream I was in the middle of! Four burly men with axes and chainsaws and really bad puns in my new-found dream town? No way. So I scratched that dream.

But then we headed to this rainforest. It was amazing! There were totem poles everywhere! North west Indians knew what art was all about. They had it down before anyone. These crazy wood carvings were beautiful illustrations of their life stories- every single one. I want someone to think I'm cool enough to spend the time carving and painting something so epic about me. haha Maybe one day!
Ketchikan Totem Pole

We then spent the next day at sea. Which wasn't too bad... there was a desert buffet...   :)

But then that night we arrived on Vancouver Island. Victoria, British Columbia! It was a beautiful city! Huge city parks, right on the water, trees everywhere, cute artsy little stores made up down town and our cruise only gave us four hours to explore! So we went to the famous Butchart Gardens. That garden is AMAZING! Completely blew me away. I cannot imagine the work and planning and care that kind of gardens must take. It was beautiful during the day! The flowers were all in bloom and there were people sitting out on the grass watching the concert. It was very picturesque, a perfect summer day! But then the most wonderful thing happened; the sun set. And the garden seemed to be taken over by Alice in Wonderland or a Tim Burton of sorts. It was magical! The flowers and trees were all lit up and the fountain had color changing lights. It was the second best part of the whole trip (whales still top that chart).
Butchart Gardens at night

The cruise was amazing. That's one thing on my Bucket List that I can cross off! But what about the Northern Lights? Well! The lights are up north a bit and don't show up until September. And that's when things start to get chilly. I guess next time I'll just have to plan around them though, won't I? :)
Love,
Lexi
